A constellation is a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern that is often named after what it resembles and is often connected to mythology. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) recognized 88 constellations in 1922, including 48 Greek constellations listed by Ptolemy in the Almagest (a 2nd century treatise on mathematics and astronomy) (Source: Wikipedia)
