Multilingual flashcard: They lived happily ever after

Multilingual flashcard 149 – And they lived happily ever after.

The bittersweet and (to me at least) often unsatisfying ending to a fairytale. My initial forays into writing were often sparked by this ‘And they all lived happily ever after’….or did they? How? What happened next?

While characters in fairytales are often symbolic tropes, I have always wanted to know more about their personalities and motivation. This is part of the reason why I really enjoy novel-length adaptations of fairy tales. So, ‘And they all lived happily ever after…’ have never been quite enough for me.

What do you think? Do you have any favourite ending lines?
