Multilingual flashcard: War

This week in school we have been talking about soldiers who have lost their lives in defence of their countries in the lead-up for Remembrance Day on 11th November (though we will be having our service in school on Friday 10th).

It got me thinking about the ubiquity of conflict and how often I have needed to know this word in any language I have learnt. I have decided to do a series of words looking at military language, then a series looking at some of the concepts also associated with war – running the full gamut of human experience from hope to despair.

So here in war in 10 languages – how many of you have needed this vocabulary for a discussion in your target language?
