In Austria, where I am spending New Year’s Eve this year, it is known as the festival of Saint Sylvester and pigs are a symbol of good luck – I received a marzipan pig as a gift!

Apparently people in Vienna take pigs for walks on leads to hope for good luck in the coming year!
