Six for Sunday: Book characters you would like to be stuck in a lift with

This is my second post for #SixforSunday, created and hosted by the lovely Steph at A Little but a Lot.

See my first post – books I would like to see made into movies.

This prompt made me giggle when I first saw it – one, because us Brits are generally pretty awkward in the lift so all face the same way in silence, two because of the number of fanfics where two characters get stuck in a lift and sparks fly

Anyway, I started to think of people who I wouldn’t mind being stuck in a lift with and really struggled to come up with some.

I’m not good with enclosed paces at the best of times and I hate being crowded by people…this made me think of characters who might be able to get us OUT of a stuck lift.

S4S 2 Stuck in lift

Number 1 would be Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic.

I know I’ve mentioned this book for two weeks in a row, but it really is that good and Kell would not be stuck in the lift for any longer than it took to draw a door. Hopefully he would be willing to take me along with him rather than leave me stuck in the lift!

Number 2, thinking along the same lines, would be Inej from Six of Crows. As a thief she is a pretty good climber and has gotten herself into and out of some tight spots in the past. I’m sure she could come up with a way to get us out of the lift in no time!

Next would be Silyen Jardine from Gilded Cage. Partly just because he is my favourite character and he’s fascinating, but also because I couldn’t see him allowing anyone to keep him locked in somewhere he didn’t want to be. He would use his Gift to get himself out of there in a flash. Whether or not he would help me would probably depend on how interesting he found it or if I had anything to offer him in return!

Number 4 would be Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles. Once again, I imagine that she would be pretty handy to have around in a tight spot. With her experience fixing machines, I’m sure she could have the lift moving in no time. I also just love her as a character – she has been through some pretty tough times but always tries to do the right thing. If nothing else, we could have an interesting conversation while stuck!

Number 5 would be Nikolai from The Grisha Trilogy. I finally got around to reading this last week and now see why everybody loves Nikolai so much – he is such a great character! He uses every tool at his disposal to get what he wants and I can imagine that he would find us a way out of the lift in no time at all. He would probably have some device to cut his way out, or a crew member who can swoop in to save the day.

Finally, it would by Floyd from Stuck by Oliver Jeffers. I love this book so much – it really makes me laugh out loud every time I read it and every class I have shared it with has loved it too. During this story Lloyd gets everything you can imagine (and some things you probably won’t!) stuck in a tree. I can only imagine what his solution would be if he were stuck in a lift…

What did you think of my choices?

Did you agree or disagree with any of them?

Which book characters would you like to be stuck in a lift with?

  1. Clever to choose characters who can save you! I’m not a big fan of lifts in general and fear being stuck in one, so I’d probably have gone for a similar approach. MG heroines would likely have been a recurring theme had I taken part, and I may have included Lion Boy just so I had the chance to meet him! 😂

    1. I’m not a fan of being stuck in small spaces either. I went for more young adult books for this post but there are lots I could have chosen from MG too! Partway through writing the post I did begin to drift into just adding characters that I would like to meet so had to pull myself back! 😂 It would be nice to meet Lion Boy…

  2. Silyen made it to my list too.

    1. He had to be on there! Even though I probably shouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him…

I’ve only read 2 of these books. I know, I know. I have lots of the others though… so that will change in time! I love your explanations!

Thank you for joining in #SixforSunday with such enthusiasm. It means a lot! See you next week! S xx

    1. It’s so much fun to join in! I am struggling to come up with six for next week though because it keeps just turning into a list of characters I don’t like!
