Six for Sunday: Favourite places to read

#SixforSunday is created by Steph from A Little But a Lot.

The theme for this week is favourite places to read. The short answer to this would be anywhere and everywhere!

Check out some of my previous weeks here:

Books I would like to see as movies

Book characters I would like to stuck in a lift with

Animal companions in children’s books

Favourite books of 2018 so far

I know that lots of people like to read in bed or in the bath but I’m not a massive fan of either – the bath because I have to keep a hand dry and am paranoid about getting my book wet! I read in bed more often now that I have an amazing v-shaped pillow but I still find it more comfortable to read sitting up or when my head is supported.

S4S 8 places

My favourite places to read are:

Curled up inside when it is raining outside.

I know that this is ridiculously specific, but I grew up in a small house near the sea where you could hear the rain on the roof. I have always loved being cuddled up in the warmth, listening to the sea and rain outside.

At the beach.

Once again, growing up near the sea I love the sound of the waves and I adore spending time on the beach, usually with a windbreak and some snacks!

In a window seat.

I don’t have window seats where I currently live, but I have always loved them. My sister has brilliant window seats with cushions and curtains, as well as a library in her house = life goals!

In the garden.

You can probably see a bit of a theme here. I love the outdoors and particularly like architecture that blurs the boundaries between outside and inside (e.g. Japanese traditional houses or Italian palazzi). I enjoy gardening to relax and love being able to sit in a patch of sunshine, surrounded by greenery. (When living in Japan I loved a teahouse near me with a massive bamboo garden…practically lived on their veranda at one point!)

On the sofa.

We have an l-shaped sofa which lets you read in every variation of position. I always keep some cosy blankets and cushions nearby, plus a hard surface to stand the tea on. This is probably where I do most of my reading at the moment!

In the library.

I have probably spent years of my life in the library if you add up the number of hours I have sent browsing, reading, studying and shelving (when I worked as a librarian). I visit my local library at least once a week and never leave with empty arms!

My favourite place to read is on my sofa. I read in bed sometimes but always seem to fall asleep and wake up suddenly when the book I’m reading lands on my face 😂

      2. I try to choose small paperbacks for reading in bed as they do less damage when they hit you…

    1. Yes, it’s definitely one of my favourites, particularly in my old house where you could really hear the rain on the roof…
