You can’t have your castle without a moat! Preferably filled with some nasty creatures that will have a nibble on anyone trying to cross the moat to attack you!

Moats have been used since ancient times to provide a line or defence, whether they were dry or filled with water.

The walls of Benin City(a combination of walls and moats) in Nigeria, were the largest man-made structure in the world stretching for more than 16000km. Most of the wall has now been destroyed.
