Six for Sunday: Auto-buy Authors

Auto-buy Authors

This week the prompt for #SixforSunday is authors that you will always pick up! It doesn’t matter what they write, you will read it! I have lots of these…

Here are my six auto-buy authors:

S4S autobuyauthors1

Honestly, I could have put more than six, particularly if we also included auto-buy illustrators because I also have a large number of them, but these were the first six authors that came to mind after scanning my bookshelves. The authors are weighted towards those who have had quite a few books published, though there are plenty of authors with only one book published who are also on my favourites list!

Katherine Rundell

Frances Hardinge

Cornelia Funke

Haruki Murakami

Emma Carroll

Sarah Crossan

I don’t know what it says about me that my list is mostly female and doesn’t contain many people from minorities or other countries, despite the fact that I actively look for work in translation and own voices. I also love Banana Yoshimoto, Xinran, Anchee Min, Huong Thu Duong and Shan Sa, among others.

Does your list of favourite authors reveal any trends?

What did you think of my choices?

Have you read any of these excellent books?

  1. I totally agree with Emma Carroll, and a few others that spring to mind are Polly Ho-Yen, Robin Stevens and Jess Butterworth. There are loads though!

    1. I went for those who have more than three books out, but I do also buy everything from Jess Butterworth and Polly Ho-Yen, among others. There are too many great authors to choose from!
