Thought that this might be a fun post to write and share – would love to know your answers too!

I used this random question generator to get a few questions to answer. This website is designed to help people start conversations – I would love to be able to use something like this when in a big group or networking situation as I find it really uncomfortable. I have been trying to be brave recently, attending bookish events and conferences on my own and attempting to strike up conversation with people I meet there…but it takes a lot of energy and effort so I really need to recharge my batteries afterwards!

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grow up?

So many things! Archaeologist, Vet, Fighter pilot, Professional Horse Trainer, Translator…I could go on.

Some died a death when I realised that I couldn’t achieve them (E.g. Fighter Pilots can’t be partially sighted!) while I’ve had a go at others e.g. Translator.

As I got older I really wanted a job that married my love of Art and Science, so did intend to study as a Conservationist for historical objects at one point. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough money to pay for the tuition fees so that dream fell through too.

One thing I never expected or hoped to be was a teacher. It took someone else pointing out that so much of what I loved in other jobs (running Art Workshops for kids at an Art Gallery, Coaching gymnastics, etc) involved teaching, that I began to consider it. And I adore it!

What would motivate you to run a marathon?

Not much that I can think of! It seems like all my friends are running marathons at the moment (must be something about our age!). I would perhaps be persuaded if I were being sponsored to support a charity that I really cared about.

What is the last dream that you remember?

Um…let me think. My dreams are pretty weird! The coolest one I remember recently is where I was a teacher, but I was teaching at the primary branch of Hogwarts teaching little wizards and witches to control their magic! I love my job, but I have to admit that Primary Hogwarts was pretty cool!

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Ooh, a tricky one. I have a few, as I imagine we all do it we’re being honest! Littering is a big one for me – we are all living in a shared space so people littering communal areas, parks or beaches really annoys me!

If you could acquire any skill, what would you choose?

Either the ability to teleport anywhere in an instant – hello pyramids, Machu Picchu, etc – or the ability to learn any language! That would be so amazing!

What did you think of my answers?

What would you answer to these questions?

Hello, Christina! I’m a fellow teacher (though I teach EFL) and I have a question for you. You have the perspective of both a teacher and a language learner. When you read/hear about language learning strategies, are you more likely to pay attention or try it out if it comes from a teacher or from a student? Or doesn’t it matter to you? Thank you for your time! Sorry that the comment doesn’t pertain to this particular post. I don’t know how to send direct messages. 🙂

    1. I think I would listen to both and try out the strategies mentioned. I think that each learner has to find out what works for them, so it is worth trying out lots of different ideas to find something that suits you best! How about you?

Mostly students, but really it’s about how it’s presented.

  3. I too have very odd dreams, though mine are much more terrifying odd than lovely odd like your Hogwarts one! A notable example is the one where I was being chased by a serial killer… (which I think is probably because I watch/read so very many mysteries 😂)

    1. Some of your dreams sound awful! I have a few recurring nightmares but try not to think about them too much…

    1. You are and will be! Regardless of whether or not you’re published, I think that there’s something in human nature that makes us want to create – art, music, an imprint of ourselves on the world!
