Random Question Generator: Take 2!

I really had fun answering questions from the Random Question Generator so decided to try a second round – see the first round of questions here!

I used this random question generator to get a few questions to answer.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up mostly in the middle of nowhere, near the border of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.Recently it has become more famous after a picture of Mussenden Temple was used on the cover of the Northern Ireland Tourism Brochure!

mussenden

It is really a very tiny place, with less than 50 residents in the summer and even fewer in the Winter. We didn’t have electricity until 2015 which always shocks people, but really tells you something about how remote it is! (It is also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an Area of Scientific Interest because of endangered species of plants and animals, so the electricity lines had to be put underground which isn’t easy when this part of the island is an ancient lava flow and therefore basalt, one of the hardest rocks known to humankind!)

We moved up to Belfast when I was still in primary school because of schools – my brother would have had to board, but still spent weekends and holidays in Downhill. It is a truly magical place, with the sea almost on your doorstep and I love it deeply.

Do you prefer to travel or stay close to home?

I have interminably itchy feet and I love travelling. I love setting off for somewhere new and I love coming home at the end of a journey, looking anew at places once familiar and seeing them from another perspective.

I still have so many places in the world that I would love to go to…

What is the first thing you do in the morning?

Streeeeetch!

Then I usually go to the bathroom and wash my face to wake myself up. If I haven’t slept in, I do a little yoga, shower and have breakfast (I’m boring and have the same thing every day!) whilst reading. It takes me quite a while to go from ‘asleep’ to ‘fully awake’ so I try to give myself a good hour in the morning to avoid turning up to work as a zombie. This does mean that I get up really early most mornings so enjoy a nice lie-in at the weekend.

Once dressed, it’s a lovely walk through a nearby park to get to work.

What was your first job?

Unofficially, I used to help my parents out with delivering newspapers and flyers, as well as volunteering in our local Credit Union, Art Gallery and guiding people around historical sites.

My first official job was when I turned 16 and started working in our local leisure centre as a centre attendant and gymnastics coach. This meant that I did everything from mopping the floors to coaching the gymnastics, running birthday parties, designing posters and everything in between. It was a really great first job because I got to develop a lot of skills and I could choose each week how many hours I wanted to work (the original zero hours contract!) which was helpful when I was busy at school, etc.

What food do you like to snack on?

Pretty much anything!

I am an awful grazer and am pretty much constantly nibbling on things in between meals. I love crisps, pretzels, nuts, cherry tomatoes and carrots with houmous so generally prefer savoury snacks. Sometimes I have sweeter snacks when they;re available in the staff room or when I’m feeling stressed – haribo, dark chocolate digestive biscuits, jammy dodger biscuits and mint matchmakers are my choices then!

Weirdly (according to most people!) I don’t really like milk chocolate at all, and only have a small amount of dark chocolate…

What did you think of my answers?

That was certainly a great 1st job! Mine was library assistant aged 17. It was OK πŸ™‚
I’m a snacker too, I’m not really a milk choc fan either.

    1. Yay! I’m not alone in not really liking chocolate, especially milk. Can I also admit that I’m not much of a fan of ice cream? Library assistant sounds like good fun! I loved working as a librarian when at university. πŸ™‚

I don’t like ice cream either! But I generally don’t admit it because people think it’s weird. Most of my work has been in libraries of various kinds, but I now work in an art gallery πŸ™‚

      2. Working in a library, art gallery or museum would be lovely! Glad to have found a kindred spirit! πŸ™‚
(I usually get horrified looks if I admit that I’m not a big fan of either ice cream or chocolate!)
