New Year’s Bookish Resolutions

New Year’s Bookish Resolutions

I saw this over on Amy’s blog Golden Books Girl and thought it looked like fun so I have shamelessly nicked it!

Let me know if any of your resolutions match up with mine!

1. An Author You’d Like To Read That You’ve Never Read

Until recently this was Leigh Bardugo, but I’ve now read pretty much everything she’s written! Perhaps Victoria Aveyard as I have yet to read the Red Queen series!

2. A Book You’d Like To Read

I posted about some books I’m hoping to read this month at the weekend, but there are (no exaggeration!) thousands of books that I would like to read.

3. A Classic You’d Like To Read

Middlemarch by George Eliot. It is called the best novel ever written, but I have never read it. I borrowed a copy from the library recently so am hoping to read this soon!

4. A Book You’d Like To Re-Read

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi is one that I read as an e-ARC in the summer. The hard copy is published this week so I am hoping to reread it. I am also planning to re-read The Sin-Eater’s Daughter so I can FINALLY finish the trilogy.

5. A Book You’ve Had For Ages and Want To Read

Um, there are quite a few…I acquire books much faster than I can read them, which is saying something as I read pretty quickly. I am really hoping to get to Ink by Alice Broadway, as I read the first chapter on the way back from a bookish event, but have yet to sit down and read it in full!

6. A Big Book You’d Like To Read

The Priory of the Orange Tree, all 848 pages of it! It looks like an absolute whopper (so have to be careful not to drop it on my head whilst reading!) but it sounds incredible so definitely want to read it.

7. An Author You’ve Previously Read and Would Like To Read More Of

Again, there are lots!

8. A Book You Got For Christmas and Would Like To Read

I didn’t get as many books for Christmas as I would have expected, due to many people not knowing what I already have on my shelves. But I did get The Last Dog on Earth which looks like fun and bought myself The Winter of the Witch so should hopefully read those two soon!

9. A Series You Want To Read From Start to Finish

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. I keep meaning to start this one…

10. A Series You Want To Finish That You’ve Already Started

I have quite a few trilogies that I need to finish. I really have commitment issues with finishing the third book, particularly in trilogies I have loved! I need to read the third book in the Rebel of the Sands series, Hero At the Fall and the third book in A Darker Shade of Magic series, A Conjuring of Light.

11. Do You Set Reading Goals? If So, How Many Books Do You Want To Read in 2018?

I set a reading goal on Goodreads, not to push me to read more, but simply to keep track of everything I read in a year as I am terrible at remembering titles. As I read so many picture books and shorter chapter books in my job (I teach 7 and 8 year olds) I have set my goal quite high at 400 books. According to Goodreads I read 545 books last year and the real total is even higher as a few books weren’t on Goodreads. Therefore, I should hopefully be able to meet the 400 target!

12. Any Other Reading Goals?

I would like to make more of an effort to cross-post reviews from Goodreads to my blog. For example, doing a round-up post where I do mini-reviews for a few books even if I don’t write a long review. I would also like to make even more of an effort to ensure that I am reading and showcasing diverse books, particularly those representing a variety of countries, cultures and languages.

    1. Oh, that’s good to know. I bought the first two after hearing Alice Broadway speak at an event, so I really have no excuse not to read them soon!

  4. Loved reading your answers! I cannot wait to read Priory but once I own a copy it will likely sit on my shelf forever because of its size. Talk about daunting. Also can’t wait to read my finished copy for Gilded Wolves!

    1. Yes, it can be hard to get started on a big book. I finally read The Name of the Wind a few weeks ago, but had initially been a bit intimidated to start as it has so many pages and very tiny print!

Loved this post and your answers. You make me want to do this tag myself 😁😁
