Six for Sunday: Characters who deserve their own book
Oh my goodness, I thought that last week’s prompt was the toughest yet…and then I saw this prompt! This is hard!
Here are a few characters who I think deserve their own book, or spin-off series:
Mr Watanabe from Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman
I don’t think that I was alone is absolutely adoring this grumpy old man who befriends Rumi in Hawaii. I would totally read a book all about him! See my full review of Summer Bird Blue here.
Malkin from Cogheart by Peter Bunzl
What do mechanimals think? How does Malkin spend his days when his family are busy with other things? I would love to get inside his head a bit more and read a book from his perspective!
Inej from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Inej is such a great character, but also one of the most guarded and hidden away. I would love to find out more about her!
Gavriel from The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
Gavriel is a weird, unhinged vampire who has lived through hundreds of years of history and has experience some of the highs and lows of human existence. I would love to read about his backstory!
Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
Luna is such an interesting character – I wish we knew more about her! I would be very intrigued to read a series of books about her exploits after leaving Hogwarts.
Malachy Boyle (Fionn’s grandfather) from The Storm-Keeper’s Island by Catherine Doyle
I adored this book, as visitors to my blog will know (see my full review here) and part of the reason is that I have a very soft spot for old people (see also Mr Watanabe!) Malachy is losing his memories, but the candles hold snippets of his story. I would love to read more about him and his adventures.
Which characters do you think deserve their own book?

Thanks for reading!
I’d love a collection of short stories when Malachy burns or made his candles- the stories would be titled worth the candle name and description of colour. 💜

That would be brilliant! It reassures me that some of his memories are recorded, but also makes me sad that he is forgetting them…

Its sad but I suppose it’s to be expected, he’s putting his life energy with memories into the candles too.

Gavriel really really deserves his own book or at least a novella. I enjoyed reading him so much.

He is such a fun character! I just want to know more about his life before he appears in this book!

It is funny you say Inej because I believe but don’t quote me incase I’m wrong… but I think that Leigh Bardugo always thought the duology was Inej’s story but that when it was released while everyone loved inej… people connected go Kaz in ways she didnt expect and it became his story. So I would imagine many feel that way. I think a lot of people expected her to make an appearance in KOS with Nina. But maybe in book 2?

I can see why it may have started as Inej’s story but I feel that we learn so much more about almost everyone else’s backstory than hers in the end. I hope she appears in the sequel to King of Scars!

So do I. I feel like it was hinted at. Truly the whole crew was talked about quite a bit. Guess we will have to see!

Loved your list!!! Luna is one of my favourite characters from HP so I’d definitely want to see her featured in her own book!! I really like Inej as well 😀

That’s why I read fanfiction! There are some really good ones out there and I love it hen some of my favourite characters who don’t get enough attention in the books, get a bit more attention in fan-written work! Apparently Inej may be popping up in King of Scars 2, when it;s out…

Oh!! Very interesting! I’ve been putting off king of scars but maybe I’ll read this now knowing that inej (and maybe Kaz?!!) might reappear in the sequel 🙂
