Waiting on Wednesday: Sanctuary

Written by V. V. James

320 pages

Publication date: 8th August 2019

Summary (from Goodreads):

The small Connecticut town of Sanctuary is rocked by the death of its star quarterback.

Daniel’s death looked like an accident, but everyone knows his ex-girlfriend Harper is the daughter of a witch – and she was there when he died.

Then the rumours start. When Harper insists Dan was guilty of a terrible act, the town turns on her. So was his death an accident, revenge – or something even darker?

As accusations fly and secrets are revealed, paranoia grips the town, culminating in a trial that the whole world is watching . . .

Why I can’t wait to read this:

  • Vic James has become an auto-buy author for me since I read her Dark Gifts series (read my review of the first book i the trilogy, Gilded Cage, here) I have since recommended it to many people and every single one has become a converted fan!
  • This story has witches! Anything with witches = something I want to read!
  • Although it is described as a thriller, which isn’t usually my genre of choice, I know that the author is interested in themes of power and inequality, which is something I enjoy too.
  • Being from a small town where everyone knows everyone else, I relate to the idea of every place having its own secrets and everyone having a vested interest in keeping those secrets.
  • At first I didn’t really like the cover, but the more I look the more intriguing it becomes…

What do you think?

Does this sound like the kind of book you would enjoy?

Will you be reading this or do you have any other anticipated releases you would recommend to me?

    1. Have you read the Dark Gifts trilogy? Starting with Gilded Cage? I love it so much! It’s a bit like a vision of Britain where Voldemort and the Death Eaters have won…

      2. OMG! Hope you love it! It blew me away! It;s very dark and twisty – people who have magic are the elite and those who don’t have magic have to work as slaves for ten years to pay off their ‘debt’ to society.
