This year I have been terrible at updating my Goodreads regularly, meaning that I am sure that there are books missing from this list…but, either way, I really enjoy seeing this summary at the end of the year showing what kinds of books I have enjoyed.

In 2018 I managed to read 545 books ( see how I manage to read so many books!), but in 2019, I read fewer, but still very respectable total of 399! (by saying this I am not meaning to meet the empahasis on numbers of books read, as I honestly believe that any reading is great and no matter how many or few books you read, the enjoyment of reading is the most important. Also, as you will see, I read a lot of picture books which makes the total look a lot higher!)

My average rating is higher than it was last year, probably for two reasons: 1) I have been more selective in what I read 2) When it’s a half star rating I have been rounding up, rather than down.

I’m surprised that the Valeria Di Campo book is so highly rated on Goodreads, but not many people have read it and the illustrations are exquisite so that may explain it.

I unashamedly love this entire series and so has anyone to whom I have recommended it – great for age 7+!

Sorcerer to the Crown fully deserves 5 stars so I may have to go back and change this! I often start the year feeling self-conscious about how generous I can be with rating books I love, but this is one I got wrong!

Nearly 400 books read and so many great reads – looking back over 2019 has made me feel really happy to have had so many fantastic reads and visited so many different worlds through the magical portals of books. One thing that I definitely didn’t do, however, was stick to any kind of to-be-read list, so I will need to be a bit stricter in 2020, especially about reading books I already own instead of always borrowing from the library and buying new ones!

I’ve attempted to add up some numbers, but may have made a few mistakes along the way…

Picture books: 135

Middle-grade books: 110

Young-adult books: 88

Adult books: 34

Nonfiction books: 27

Poetry books: 7

Graphic novels: 5

Books by Asian authors: 33 (though I am sure that I missed a few for this!)
