Summary (from Goodreads):

One cold, crisp night, Jack Sommers was faced with a choice—live forever according to the ancient, magical rules of Gaia, or die.

Jack chose to live, and in exchange, he became a Winter—an immortal physical embodiment of the season on Earth. Every year, he must hunt the Season who comes before him. Summer kills Spring. Autumn kills Summer. Winter kills Autumn. And Spring kills Winter.

Jack and Fleur, a Winter and a Spring, fall for each other against all odds. To be together, they’ll have to escape the cycle that’s been forcing them apart. But their creator won’t let them go without a fight.

Why I can’t wait to read this:

  • As any long-term readers of the blog will know, I am a fan of fantasy books so any book appearing in that section of the library/bookshop will be read at some point.
  • I love the idea of people becoming embodiments of seasons, particularly when seasons can differ between countries and often appear to be getting confused and overlapping more thank to global climate change. (For anyone who has lived in Japan, I always found it hilarious when my Japanese friends would boast about Japan’s four seasons…then be surprised that the U.K. has four too…sometimes even on one day! Still, Japan generally plans for and celebrates the change of seasons more than the U.K.  with blossom viewing, etc.)
  • Based on the summary, it should be Fleur who is supposed to kill Jack, rather than the other way around – I’m looking forward to seeing this dynamic in action.
  • The character’s name and the fact that he becomes an embodiment of Winter, makes me think of Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians and he’s a great character!
  • The all-powerful Creator sounds like an interesting antagonist, particularly is they have the power to make someone immortal. This raises so many questions that I can’t wait to have answered!

What do you think?

Does this sound like the kind of book you would enjoy?
