Publication date: 10th January 2019

Summary (from Goodreads):

One girl can make a difference…

Moscow has burned nearly to the ground, leaving its people searching for answers – and someone to hold accountable. Vasya finds herself on her own, amid a rabid mob that calls for her death, blaming her witchery for their misfortune.

Then a vengeful demon returns, renewed and stronger than ever, determined to spread chaos in his wake and never be chained again. Enlisting the hateful priest Konstantin as his servant, turmoil plagues the Muscovites and the magical creatures alike, and all find their fates resting on the shoulders of Vasya.

With an uncertain destiny ahead of her, Vasya learns surprising truths of her past as she desperately tries to save Russia, Morozko, and the magical world she treasures. But she may not be able to save them all…

Why I can’t wait to read this:

  • I loved The Bear and the Nightingale and The Girl in the Tower, even more than I had expected to!
  • The weather is getting colder so this will be the perfect read for January when (hopefully!) there will be a bit of snow on the ground!
  • This is the third book in the trilogy…meaning that the story will finish in this volume. I am simultaneously on tenterhooks to find out what will happen and wishing that it didn’t have to be over…
  • I’m looking forward to more Russian folklore and strange creatures – reading these books has made me go off and read more folklore and fairy tales from Russia
  • More Vasilisa and more Morozko, plus all of the other characters that I’ve fallen in love with.
  • Finally, look at that amazing cover! The covers for each book in this series are right up there with my favourite covers of all time. Not only are they works of art, but they also contain lots of hidden details and clues about the story.

What do you think?

Does this sound like the kind of book you would enjoy?

    1. I would definitely recommend it. The first book in the trilogy is The Bear and the Nightingale which starts a bit slowly, but had me absolutely hooked. It is based on Russian folktales and has great characters -I would definitely recommend it!

  3. I read the first two books over the summer and can’t wait to read this one too!

    1. I am always nervous to finish trilogies because I don’t want them to be over. I’m planning to reread the first two just before this one comes out – they seem like the perfect books to cuddle up in the warm with!

  4. I love that the books in this trilogy have always been released early January – it’s a perfect time of year to read them! I will be reading this one 🙂
