Shadows of Winterspell

Written by Amy Wilson

256 pages

Published by Macmillan Children’s Books

Publication date: 17th October

Summary (from Goodreads):

Stella has been living behind the magic of the forest for most of her life. Lonely, she enrolls at the local school, and as she begins to make friends, she discovers that she is even more different than she thought. But as autumn turns to magical winter, Stella realizes that uncovering her own family secret is the only way to release the forest from the grip of a dark and old magic.

Why I can’t wait to read this:

  • I have loved every single one of Amy Wilson’s books, from A Girl Called Owl to A Far Away Magic and Snowglobe. Every single one has been magical, imaginative and transporting, meaning that I will read anything she has written!
  • This book looks perfect for curling up with as the weather gets colder and darker.
  • I love stories set in forests, especially as so many of our fairy tales and folk tales are set there. It is a kind of liminal space where anything can happen and I feel like these liminal spaces are where magic can creep in.
  • Stella sounds like the kind of character that many  readers will identify with, as well as her quest to make friends and feeling different from those around her.
  • The idea of family secrets and an old, dark magic has me intrigued…

Not long to go until I can get my hands on this one – out tomorrow! Yay!
